Tumble dry low Low heat + 2–3 dryer balls for max fluff.

No fabric softener It coats the fibres – less fluffy, less breathable.
Iron low (optional) Only if you want – low steam does the trick.
Before the first night

Unbox, fluff, sleep

Your doona travels compressed, so give it a moment to wake up.

Step 1

Let it breathe

Unpack it, give it a good shake and let it rest flat for up to 24 hours to reach full loft.

Shortcut

In a hurry?

Pop it in the dryer for 10–15 minutes on no heat / air only with a couple of dryer balls.

Dark colours

Wash separately first

Black, Dark Blue, Red and Brown: wash on their own for the first 1–2 washes to avoid any colour transfer.

Washing

How to wash your doona

  1. Treat stains first

Dab any marks with a little mild detergent before it goes in. (See stain tips below.)

  2. Load it loosely

Your doona needs room to move. For Queen and larger we recommend a front loader with 8 kg+ capacity.

  3. 40Β°C, gentle cycle

Use a small amount of mild liquid detergent. Choose 60Β°C every now and then for an extra-hygienic clean.

  4. Add an extra rinse

Gets all the detergent out – softer feel, and better for sensitive skin.

Drying

Dry it right, keep it fluffy

Tumble dryer

Low heat + dryer balls

  • Always low heat – high heat can damage synthetic fibres.
  • Add 2–3 wool dryer balls or clean tennis balls.
  • Pause every 30 minutes and give it a shake.
Clothesline

Spread it out

  • Drape it across two lines so air flows through.
  • Flip it once halfway – can be dry in as little as 2 hours on a warm day.
  • Dark colours in the shade: strong Aussie sun fades colour.

The squeeze test: squeeze a few spots, especially the corners. Any coolness or damp = not done yet. Only put it back on the bed when it's 100% dry – otherwise it can get musty, especially in humid weather.

How often

Wash it whenever you like

There's no cover protecting it – and that's the point. The whole thing goes in the wash, so your bed is actually clean, not just the outside.

A regular doona

1–2Γ— a year
  • Often too big for a home machine
  • Laundromat trips or dry cleaning
  • Sweat and dust build up inside for months

Your DeepSleep Doona

Every 2–4 weeks …or as often as you like – whatever feels fresh to you.
  • Straight into your washing machine
  • Weekly if you have allergies or pets on the bed
  • Fresh bed, zero effort
Everyday freshness

Small habits, fresher bed

β˜€οΈ Morning shake

Give it a quick shake when you make the bed – keeps the fill even and lofty.

🌬️ Air it weekly

Fold it back for an hour or hang it outside in the shade to let moisture escape.

⚑ Act fast on spills

Blot (don't rub) with cold water and a little mild soap. The sooner, the easier.

Quick stain guide

Sweat / yellow marks Pre-soak 30 min in cool water with an enzyme-based stain remover (no chlorine bleach), then wash at 40–60Β°C.
Makeup / skincare Dab with a drop of dishwashing liquid and lukewarm water, leave 10 min, then wash as normal.
Coffee, tea & wine Blot immediately, rinse from the back with cold water, then wash. Hot water can set the stain.
Pets Use a lint roller before washing to remove hair. For accidents: rinse with cold water, then wash at 60Β°C.
Allergies & sensitive skin

Built for sensitive sleepers

Dust mites love doonas that never get washed. Yours can be washed whenever you like – that's the biggest win for allergy-prone sleepers.

Made from soft, breathable microfibre that's gentle on skin – and because the whole doona goes in the wash, your bed stays properly clean, inside and out.

Allergy tip

Weekly wash + 60Β°C now and then

Wash weekly and choose the 60Β°C cycle every few washes for an extra-hygienic clean. Add an extra rinse to remove all detergent.

Storage & seasons

Year-round, and built to last

🌑️ One doona, all seasons

The ThermoBalance fill helps regulate temperature – breathable in summer, cosy in winter. Most people keep it on the bed all year.

πŸ“¦ Storing it?

Wash and dry it completely first. Store in a breathable cotton bag in a cool, dry place – never in plastic, which traps moisture.

♻️ Lasts for years

Gentle cycle, low heat, no softener, fully dry before use – follow these and your doona will stay soft and lofty for years.

Your SoftSleep pillowcases get the same care: 40Β°C gentle, tumble dry low. Easiest is to wash them together with your doona.

FAQ

Your questions, answered

How often should I wash my DeepSleep Doona?

Every 2–4 weeks is perfect for most people – or as often as you like, whatever feels fresh to you. If you have allergies or pets on the bed, washing it weekly is a great idea.

Will it fit in my washing machine?

Single, Double and Queen Compact fit most home machines. For Queen, King and Super King we recommend a front loader with 8 kg+ capacity. If it's a tight squeeze, a large machine at your local laundromat does the job.

Can I wash it in a top loader?

Yes, on a gentle cycle. Top loaders without a centre agitator are best. If yours has one, load the doona loosely around it so it can move freely.

Can I tumble dry it?

Yes – on low heat with 2–3 dryer balls. Pause every 30 minutes to give it a shake. Avoid high heat.

Can I dry it in the sun?

Yes. Light colours are fine in the sun. Dark colours are best dried in the shade, as strong Australian UV can fade them over time.

Can I use fabric softener?

Please don't. Softener coats the fibres, making your doona less fluffy and less breathable. An extra rinse keeps it soft naturally.

My doona feels flat or clumpy after washing – what now?

It's usually still a little damp inside. Pop it back in the dryer on low for 15–20 minutes with dryer balls, then give it a good shake. No dryer? No worries – hang it on the clothesline outside or over an indoor clothes airer until it's completely dry, then give it a good shake to fluff it back up.

It smells a bit musty – why?

That means it wasn't completely dry before going back on the bed. Wash it again and make sure it's 100% dry (use the squeeze test).

Will the colour fade or run?

Wash dark colours separately for the first 1–2 washes, skip bleach and dry dark colours in the shade – that keeps the colour rich.

Can I still use a doona cover?

You can, but you don't need one. The DeepSleep Doona is designed to be used on its own – that's what makes bed-making so easy.

Is it suitable for allergies, sensitive skin and kids?

Yes – it's made from soft, breathable microfibre that's gentle on skin. And because you can wash the whole doona as often as you like, dust mites don't get a chance to build up.

Can I iron it?

You don't need to, but if you like a crisp look, use low heat with steam.

How should I store it?

Clean and fully dry, in a breathable cotton bag, somewhere cool and dry. Avoid plastic bags – they trap moisture.

Can I wash it during my 40-night trial?

Absolutely – washing it is part of trying it. Just follow this care guide.

How long will my doona last?

With the care above – gentle cycle, low heat, no softener – your DeepSleep Doona is made to last for years.
